Isaac or Ishmael?

The Independent Catholic News has again made a strange claim:

In the story of Ibrahim and Ishmael, which is shared by Islam and the Old Testament, God asked the prophet to prove his faith by sacrificing his son.

Turning quickly to the Bible we find a story that is certainly not shared by Islam and the Old Testament. In the Old Testament it is Isaac that is prepared for sacrifice, and not Ishmael. The story has been recorded that way for over two millenia. And although Islam has a tradition that it was Ishmael, that is not specifically recorded anywhere in the Koran. So it's hard to see how the story is shared, when there is flat contradiction between the two accounts.
